Hi friends! Last year we moved into our new apartment and I shared a progress post a few months in. I realized that I never really shared the final product. Other than eventually finding a set of curtains and an additional lamp, I’m feeling that this room is pretty complete! I’d definitely say my decor style is modern, soft and feminine. I’m a lucky girl because S doesn’t mind having tufted furniture or pink pillows as long as they are comfy. After chatting with some of my girlfreinds and a few readers, I have some to find that this is a rare trait in a guy so I consider myself very lucky! S is so supportive of my interest in home decor and really is my partner in crime for tracking down deals on certain items! He will walk around the corner in Home Goods with the perfect gold serving tray or, when I was on the hunt, send me options of tufted headboards. He enjoys all the pieces in our apartment and only slight complaint is that the faux fur pillows make his head hot, haha!
My goal for any room I put together is to have an organized, calming space that feels like “us”. I started with a modern base of white furniture: this coffee table, this TV stand and white framed artwork. The next base item was our couch! I fell in love with the thought of a tufted couch and searched for one in a grey hue so it’s super versatile and still light enough to brighten the room up. Navy seemed too dark and ivory seemed too light, so grey was the perfect color. Our couch is sold out, but here is an affordable option on sale and here is one of a similar color in a traditional style. Also, when planning out our living room I purposely kept the investment pieces neutral – like the couch and rug. At first I contemplated a statement rug, but realized how expensive that would be to switch out! Who knew rugs were so expensive?! To pull in personality with prints, I instead opted for pillows and artwork since these are easier and tend to be more affordable pieces to swap out.
After having the neutral base, I used blush hues with these pillows and this blanket as a complimentary color and pop of personality. Again, I know how lucky I am that S accepts me for the pink-loving girly-girly that I am because I don’t know what other color I’d have played with.. I suppose a navy, sage emerald green!
For some pops of personality, I added in fun prints like these pebble pillows and texture with a velvet couch, faux fur pillows and velvet pillows. Pillows are an easy and affordable way to transform your room season to season. I just recently added these pebble pillows and I LOVE how playful it makes the area look. Come fall, I’ll swap them out for navy and darker hues to match the season.
And lastley, an important aspect to decorating any room is create a cohesive look without being too matchy-matchy. Adding in varying textures is the way to do this, just like with an outfit! You’ll find a sleek floor lamp playing off a velvet couch with faux fur pillows. Lots of different textures there!
I hope you enjoyed this home decor post! I have our living room coming to you next week as well. As far as decorating our apartment, my next adventure if our home office. If you have any favorite shops, please leave them in the comments! Xo Mindy
PS – the floral arrangement is from my friend, Jackie. She owns Central Square Florist in Cambridge. Aren’t they so pretty?!
