During the last weekend in February, we had the oddest break of warm weather. I’m talking 70 degrees in New England! That’s unheard of until mid May at least. Whenever we have an early glimpse of spring, New Englanders are prepared for it to go away fast. With that, I’m still very happy the quick burst of sunshine happened because it made me get spring ready, REAL QUICK.
I don’t know about you, but during the cold months, I slack. I put off self tanning. Sometimes I hit snooze instead of hitting the gym. My outfits become repeatable much too often. I reach for leggings over jeans. After five months of having to wear four layers just to step outside, I tend to feel a bit uninspired. Anyone else?
The first glimpse of spring always kicks me outta my rut and into high gear. So although the 70 degree February sunshine was a tease, I took it all in and have been in such a great routine since. That first day of warm weather, I wanted to sport a cute sundress for date night and walk around town for ice cream with S, so I needed to get spring ready fast. Below are my tips to bring you from winter to spring in a snap!
1.Self tan: Who doesn’t feel their best when sporting a tan? A few years ago, I searched high and low for a great self tanner because I’m anti-UV ray to the extreme. I wish I could wear a full length body suit by the pool, but instead I just sit in the shade with SPF 120 on 😉 Either way, the best pick me up I can ever recommend is applying a self tanner. I apply this one two different ways depending on my schedule. I work from home most the week, so I’ll either apply it and let is sit for six to eight hours while I work or I’ll apply it before going to bed and just throw on old pjs and line the bed wit old sheets [because it will rub off while setting in. You’ll shower six to eight hours after and then after that, you won’t rub off on anything]. The color has undertones of green so you will be left with just got back from VK tan and not orange skin. I also recommend this product over going to a salon for a spray tan too. I’ve tried them all – professional air brush, mystic, etc. They all come out heavy and orange to me, so I’ll choose this for $44 and multiple uses over a $50 one-time spray tan any day.
2.Crop Denim: Crops allow you to bring an ordinary outfit into the actual season. What I mean by this is that a regular pair of denim is an outfit you can wear any day of the year. Wearing crops is pulling a hint of seasonal flair into your look. I grabbed these and these at Loft recently and they are so comfy.
3.Bright Lip: Put those dark berry lippies away and reach for pops of pink! Bobbi Brown recently sent me their Liquid Art Stick lip line and the hues are perfect for spring. This liquid lipstick is ultra creamy, so it keeps your lips hydrated all day. I’m wearing shade ‘Azalea’.
4.Get a Pedicure: Personally, I splurge for pedis when the weather is warm and then go on a salon hiatus for the winter months. Having cute toes let’s you throw on those open toed heels or cute sandals in a jiffy. My favorite color is OPI’s Mod About You. It’s the perfect shade of light pink!
5.Spring Trends: Before the sunshine peers out, I research spring trends and start gathering items to pull out and incorporate into my wardrobe. This year, you’ll be seeing open toed mules [mine are under $90], pom pom earrings and ruffles galore. Seriously, I think the last four tops I’ve purchased have feminine ruffled hems.
6.Work It Out: Another must-have pick me up? Getting those endorphins pumping. You better believe I took advantage of the warmth and went for an outdoor run! Our home is surrounded by a running trail, so it’s so relaxing for summer night walks or mid-day runs. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to run outside again for a few weeks, so I decided to reflect on what work out I’m passionate about other than running outdoors. I love spinning, so I grabbed a monthly unlimited plan at my local studio and have been going five times a week. I don’t even bat an eye for that 5AM alarm. I look forward to my classes and feel absolutely amazing. Find a work out you’re passionate about and sign up! PS – These are my favorite work out leggings and this is my favorite top.
I hope these tips are helpful and I’d love to hear how you get spring ready! Xoxo Mindy
